Drew Baldridge is ready to embark on the next phase of his career.

“It’s different,” Baldridge said, “but something I am really excited to have everyone hear.”

Baldridge is back in the area Friday, April 11 for his first-ever headlining showcase at the Copper Dragon. Also performing that night is We Got It Covered. The show is the first in Baldridge’s latest tour.

Growing up in the south-central Illinois town of Patoka, Baldridge knew at a young age that he had musical talent— particularly for country. He won several talent competitions, including Kentucky Opry and Southern Star, as well as other local and state contests. At nineteen, Baldridge took off for Nashville, Tennessee, to play on Music Row and network with some of the city’s best musicians.

Baldridge, now twenty-two, signed a publishing agreement with THIS  Music/Warner Chappell, a heavy-hitting giant in the industry with a catalog of more than one-million songs and a roster of more than sixty-five-thousand songwriters.

Patoka got its time in the limelight last summer when Baldridge brought in a film crew to shoot his first video, “B.Y.O.B.” The song is a mid-tempo rocker about a typical weekend night drinking on the backroads and ensuring that enough beverages are brought to keep the party rolling. Baldridge said he wanted the chance to share his success with his fans and also some of his closest friends. The video is featured on Baldridge’s CMT music profile page.

“It was a great time,” he said. “It had rained a little bit, but we just had a blast hanging out together and shooting the video.”

Baldridge said he just finished shooting the video for his followup single, which is also the title track for his upcoming tour. The song “She’s Taken” is a slower-paced country tune, with Baldridge crooning about how he has found his soul mate, a love worth making.

“She’s taken, she is mine / She is taking me home tonight,” he sings. “Got me wrapped up nice and tight / Like a shirt on her hips, her hips.”

Baldridge said the latest video shoot was completely different than “B.Y.O.B.” While the first was essentially Baldridge hanging out with hundreds of his buddies, “She’s Taken” required him to dig down deep and show a more sensitive side.

“I got to do a little bit of acting this time,” he said. “It was a great experience.”

The video is set for a May release.

Baldridge added that the party tune “B.Y.O.B.” may bang out a good time, but the sensitive ballad “She’s Taken” is a closer representation of his personality.

“It’s more me,” he said. “It’s more of who I am.”

This past summer, Baldridge shared the stage with legendary country duo Montgomery Gentry. He also opened for Justin Moore and Lee Greenwood.

But Baldridge said he is excited to have his first headlining show in Carbondale and show everyone another side of his musical nature.

“We are really looking to come back and play at the Copper Dragon,” Baldridge said.
